IPLI’s Summer Seminar to feature strong speaker lineup

IPLI has secured a strong lineup of speakers for our Summer Seminar, which will be held at Indiana State University from July 14-16. Principals from the second and third cohort will have the opportunity to learn from these national educational leaders, as well as participate in a session solely dedicated to enhancing social media.

Here’s the lineup:


Tuesday, July 14 (Cohort 3 only)

Todd Whitaker

A professor of educational leadership at ISU, Dr. Whitaker has shared his message about staff motivation, teacher leadership and principal effectiveness with an international audience. He is the author of 30 books, including the national bestseller, What Great Teachers do Differently.

Nancy Dana

A professor in the School of Teaching and Learning at the University of Florida’s College of Education, Nancy Fichtman Dana is a noted researcher in the area of practitioner research as a professional development strategy. She has published nine books, and more than 50 articles in professional journals related to her research.


Wednesday, July 15 (Cohorts 2 and 3)

Dr. Mike Schmoker

Dr. Mike Schmoker will provide keynote remarks, which address key topics from his best-selling book, FOCUS: Elevating the Essentials to Radically Improve Student Learning. He is a former school administrator, English teacher and football coach, and has written five books and dozens of articles for educational journals, newspapers, and national publications. Dr. Schmoker is the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Tony Sinanis

Tony Sinanis is currently Lead Learner at Cantiague Elementary School in Jericho, New York. His school was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2012. He also is the founder and co-moderator of #NYedchat, and a published author and presenter about social media and school branding. Follow him on Twitter: @TonySinanis.

Amber Teamann

Amber Teamann is an Assistant Principal at a K-4 elementary school in the Wylie Independent School District in Wylie, Texas. In her 13 years of education she has also served as a Title I Technology Facilitator, which put her on 17 different campuses to help staff and students navigate their digital abilities and responsibilities. Thursday, July 16 (Cohort 2 only)

Tammy Heflebower

Tammy Heflebower is senior scholar at Marzano Research. She is a highly sought-after school leader and consultant with vast experience in urban, rural, and suburban districts throughout the world. She has worked at nearly every level in education, from classroom teacher to national trainer. She also has served as an adjunct professor at several universities.
