David Maugel

David L. Maugel is in his 27th year as an educator.  He was the 2016 Indiana High School Principal of the Year and is currently the principal at NorthWood High School. The first ten years were in the high school mathematics’ classroom where he was selected four times as a State Finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and in 2002, Mr. Maugel was selected as a National Finalist.  The integration of technology and authentic projects were strategies that allowed the students he served to be successful at mastering the content.  The last seventeen years, Mr. Maugel has transition into the high school principal role developing his skills in leadership, communication, organization, and evaluation through a variety of professional development opportunities.  As a graduate of IPLA Group 41, Mr. Maugel began embracing the Professional Learning Community (PLC) philosophies which he has implemented at NorthWood High School over the last eleven years.  Within the framework and philosophies of PLCs, Mr. Maugel has grown leadership capacity, common assessments, and student-centered learning environments that have proven successful through the recognition NorthWood High School has received over the past seven years.  The school has earned four 4-Star high school awards and seven A-rating by the Indiana Department of Education and Best High Schools, Silver or Bronze Award, by U.S. News & World Reports.
